The manual is helpful toward maximizing the simulation experience with this scenery.īill Stack is author of several books about flight simulation, a regular author in flight-sim magazines, and a contributor to Flight Sim Com. The stand-alone visual manager enables users to engage or disengage two special visual features. Aerosoft enables a realistic simulation experience with accurate buildings, aprons, taxiways, runway and markings, as well as a well-depicted urban area around the airport, without diminishing frame rates. Granted many of Larnaca's buildings were constructed after FSX was released in 2006, but the FSX depiction appears to have been inadequate even then.

All buildings seen in the satellite photos as of October 2012 are in Aerosoft's rendition, in stark contrast to the bland FSX depiction. Larnaca International Airport by Aerosoft is a realistic depiction of a busy airport that's undergoing major expansion and renovation. A complete list of Aerosoft products is available from the Pilot Shop. I reviewed its Maldives X in November 2011. Mega Airport London-Heathrow, Hughes H-1B Special, and MyTraffic X Download.

Information about Larnaca International Airport can be found at these websites:Īerosoft develops several types of addons for Microsoft Flight Simulator ® such as aircraft, sceneries, and missions.

Although I saw no helipads in the satellite photos or Aerosoft's rendition, I saw one helicopter in the real-world photos, so helicopter flights would be realistic. With tourism being an important activity, there might be sightseeing flights from this airport. This airport also handles general aviation traffic, as evidenced by the large, heavily populated GA parking area seen in the satellite photos. Its 9,823-foot (2,994-meter) runway at sea level will accommodate aircraft as large as Boeing 747s. This being a busy commercial airport for the region, commercial passenger, cargo, or charter flights in commercial airliners between Europe, Asia, and Africa are appropriate. Readers with technical questions not answered in this review should contact Aerosoft because they are best able to answer such questions. Technical support is available through forums on Aerosoft's website.

Recommended simulator settings are higher than FSX default, but this scenery worked perfectly on my Windows 7 system with default FSX settings.

Users select their language from a pull-down menu during installation. The installation program is available in English, French, German, and Spanish. Any computer that operates FSX or FS2004 properly should be able to handle this scenery. The FSX version requires Acceleration Pack, SP2 or Gold Edition. Users select the version they wish to install.

The ZIP archive file contains both versions. Larnaca International Airport by Aerosoft is for Microsoft Flight Simulator ® versions X and 2004. I used a stock FSX Boeing 737 and an Airbus A321, I waited for the "OK" signal, I had the engines off and the doors open, I watched service equipment park next to the aircraft, I pressed CTRL/J repeatedly, and I tested several gates, but the jetways never moved. It features a visual docking guidance system (VDGS) at all gates, but I was unable to get any of the jetways to work. This is significant because the FSX jetways don't always work with addon products. Users may choose to use or not use these features by using a separate program called Visual Tool.Īerosoft says its gates are fully functional. The light cones seem to cause illuminated surfaces to glow even in daylight as though they were irradiated. Aerosoft explains in its manual that MipMaps accommodates the way different graphic cards display FSX textures and that light cones is a new approach to 3D lighting. An addon tool enables users to manipulate two unusual features: MipMaps and light cones.
